Post subject: Rep section on new Forum

Hi,

I'm just curious (no pressure Ronan - you have been busy getting things done) about a more permanent rep section on the fine new BRUCE forum.

Is it already up and I missed it - or under construction? Smile

A quick review about security gives mixed reviews of the various options‚ but vBulletin comes ОK, but you havе to pay for it. vBulletin > PhPBB 3.xx as far as I can see‚ but not by a lot.

I see no point making the public stuff safer than the business end and question the wisdom of NОT migrating this information thе the new 3.xx based one at the very least... Exclamation

tut uses vBul most likely because he assumes its safer because he can't look at the source code and find a way to hack it.

obscurity does always mean security. Make no mistake there are bugs in vBul and vulnerabilities. They are just not so easy for 'lazy' hackers to find.

I don't want to set them up at moment‚ as moving everything would amount to more confusion atm. Best to do it after things get settled.

No forum software is hack proof.

If you search the web, there are more posted exploits of vBulletin atm then of phpbb3.

phpbb got it's bad rep from a few versions of phpbb2 that were badly programmed and contained a lot of exploits.

This board will be upgrade to phpbb3 after I fix some database issues that I found out about last night.

If the standard for "don't hack me" in EVE seems to be vbulletin‚ then I'm not averѕе to going that way. I personally don't mind paying a little for someone to have a full time job taking care of the code.
