Noir: "Common Sense: Shape Up"
Maybe if we spy on Noir then we can learn about how REAL mercenaries operate, and maybe we might be able to get a little bit of RESPECT around here. so listen up people, this is how it's done.

I know we have a lot of new members‚ especially from Noir. Academy, but let's try to keep some semblence of professionalism and common sense.
- Stop weighing down your RR ships with 9 armour plates, Cruise missile ravens (300 DPS), and triple damage mods with no resists.
- Stop flying badly fit pilgrims, not that it was appropriate for the fleet anyway.
- Stop carrying 20 million isk worth of ammunition, and Arbalest Launchers (which btw was worth twice the ship cost fully fit).
We know, and accept that some of you are learning, but do not expect this to last forever.
Expect the new pilots to have your fits critiqued and approved BEFОRE undocking. Anyonе undocking in an unnaproved fit will face consequences. There are a half dozen EFT experts in the corp‚ please use them they are GLAD to help (we actually enjoy it).
Consider this the last warning, the next pilot who makes a mess of things due to a lack of common sense will regret it.

Worth noting: be prepared to back up the reasoning behind your fit. We get as much enjoyment out of picking apart flimsy fits as we do helping you learn in more direct manners because frankly, having your fit shredded before your very eyes can be one hell of an educational experience, and I don't mean that in a bad way.

Just make fit checks mandatory for everyone before they even undock. It doesn't take all that long to look at a fit and go‚ "Holy shit, that's not a proper RR setup!" and give some advice for fixing it. I can say from experience that a lot of the new guys use fits taken off these forums. For example, that RR Apoc with triple damage mods... I think the lesson to learn here is that just because it looks good on paper doesn't mean it'll perform, so get your fits checked before you undock and save yourself from getting chewed out later. Then when you die in a fire, you can blame it on Nidia for clearing your fit.

As long as it has 90k+ EHP (mostly from resists)‚ you can slap as many damange mods on there as you can.

Yeah, that's real professional. You troll about fits, people die.
Although I seem to be hearing a lot of unprofessional shit lately. If someone loses a ship to stupidity, they get their asses chewed out. And not to their faces, oh no, they drop to AFK or log for the afternoon, then everyone starts raging about the loss behind their back. If you're gonna' chew someone out, do it to their faces. Yeah, if it's something really stupid, then they probably deserve to get yelled at. And yeah, people probably need to grow a backbone if they're getting butthurt over getting questioned abut a ship loss.
But the chew-outs that I see are just plain vicious, and nobody learns anything from them other than that Nidia's an asshole. Raging does nobody any good anyway; all it does is make people rage-quit the corp because they feel they're surrounded by a bunch of jerks; I'm sure it's been done in the past. Be a fucking professional about it, and maybe they'll learn from their mistakes. I've seen guys who've never PVP'd in their life come out to nullsec and give it their all; they took tough losses for stupid reasons, and they got talked to about it. They learned from it, and now a couple of those guys are pretty scary in a fight. Don't underestimate the power of teaching people. Likewise, don't underestimate the power of asking for help.
We got a lot of new people in here, and while they're experienced with some things, they're not hardcore pro's who've been doing this for years yet. Take the time to mold them into the pilots Noir. needs them to be. Academy teaches some things, but it doesn't cover it all. I find that there's a lot of disrespect towards Academy members/graduates, and to be honest, I really don't find that appealing. It really makes us not want to be here sometimes, and for a corp that's working on building numbers, it might be wise to put a stop to it. Like it or not, they've earned the right to be here just as much as you have. So show a little respect. We all fly under the same flag.
Forgive me for having a conscience and thinking some things are just plain wrong, but I'm about 99.99% sure I'm not the only person who's been thinking this. And to be honest, it kinda' pisses me off that nobody else has mentioned it yet.

Trust me ‚ trolltopia is here yet you misunderstood the troll-fit-and-die part , people are actually serious when giving fitting advice and other important information related to your survivability . Just don`t ask Nidia where the next contract area is or he`ll send you at the wrong end of the galaxy . Also don`t listen anything nidia says unless it`s fitting related or eve mechanics related with time you will know just by the tone of his voice if he is serious or not . And trolling is somewhat of a issue true , it was discussed at the last 2-3 corp meetings and i think 2-3 people left due to this ...
As a final remark , you people have it FAr FAR better and easier , did you know that the first 2 academy batches were taken care of Nidia personally ? Imagine him as your CEО&handlеr ... now THAT is a true test and as far as how people act with you they are mostly trying to roughly give you all the needed information in a way you wont forget it. Also best way to avoidfurther issues is for the new people academy or not to FC or other older/experience players before undocking/ as soon as you join fleet.

We do chew people out to their faces‚ but we also make sure others know of their mistakes, or they WILL be repeated.
Rage logging after a loss does not help things, how can we teach you if you ctrl q in a fit?
We all troll and joke around, no one seriously thinks anyone else in this corp is shit (believe me, they wouldn't be around if we did.)
And don't ever assume I make a post about people getting their act together because I am bored, this is from management down.

I gotta hand it to Sniper‚ she said what a lot of us think and I agree. Unfortunately the issue is a long standing one. And judging by the posts above, I am not going to be popular. Which is fine.
Despite the pretense, Noir is full of trolls. A lot of it is friendly, but sadly some of it isn't. If anyone tells you otherwise, they are lying and need to die in a fire. The good trolls tend to relax the atmosphere, and a playful ribbing here and there can toughen you up for if you get nastier stuff. The bad trolls we have always struggled with, simply down to what Noir is. What is Noir? Efficiency. Everything done is done on the basis of that; without it, the corporation does not get paid, no jobs = no function. It was like that before I joined, it will be like that when I leave, and it won't change.
Because of this obsession with efficiency, mistakes are critiqued extensively and there are an abundance of pilots who will happily take the big spoon role and belittle the unfortunate one for it, which is unfair as those online the least in engagements tend to comment the most. Granted, stupid losses should be looked at closely. Take the Pilgrim - a bad fit even by our enemies comments, lost in a very bad way which I won't go into. Those that were there (myself included) to listen were dumbfounded, and edity logged off immediately after, probably because he knew he was going to get talked to for it. This is where the efficiency arguments come in, stupid losses like this aren't necessary. It's not up to the corporation however to hold peoples hands and softly softly bring them back - people should know how to fly before they join. What the corporation should do is give advice, watch to make sure mistakes like that don't happen again and not by insulting people to the point they leave.
Hell, after I jihaded the battleshipfleet, I knew I'd lose the encounter and that the blame was mine. Didn't stop me writing an AAR where I expected the abuse to come. What I did however, was talk with other FCs about what was good, what was bad, how it can improve. I even had backseat FCs like Dansara writing me messages saying "hey, just saw the KB, this one might need an AAR..." - no shit sherlock! All in good fun though.
It is up to that pilot however to redeem himself. If he does so, he's stronger for it and people have greater respect for him. (You guys do know Nidia has lost far more in equally dubious circumstances.) If not, then the trolling has removed what could be a potential loaded gun from future contracts. It is that simple, that's how the officers look at this. I'm not going to sugar-coat the issue or skip it, Noir is a tough place. Very rarely members stay for extended periods while being active all the time, its intense work. Lots of fun, but a high investment.
To comment on the graduates. I've been extremely impressed by a lot of them so far so far as what I have seen. Its great to come back to the corporation, see faces I haven't seen before saying "Form up here, do this." That is fantastic stuff. You guys passed the academy, so your Noir Mercenaries, end of. While we expect you guys to prove your stuff, other people should take note - they've earned the chance to be counted, so show them that respect. And with new faces comes the scope for change - if you graduates have any problems you want to talk about, find me. I'd rather champion your legitimate concerns than watch what could be a good pilot get berated over carrying a bit of extra ammunition.

When someone chews you out my best advice is to just read between the lines. Get the actual message they are trying to send you‚ and let the rest go. A lot of ppl in corp have been flying these ships for years, and know exactly what to do with em in certain situations. Almost everyone in corp will rage due to shitty losses because we are looked upon as a corp for every individuals mistake.
I've mentioned this before but usually I don't care about cruiser + losses. Then when someone losses and inty certain few deal with my rage. Since I am not allowed to rage in public to corp.
I honestly hate babysitting ppl and having to approve fits before undock. You guys made it to Noir. I would hope you know how to fly at least (1) ship decently. We all die shit happens thats fine we can't avoid that...what we can avoid is a lol mail because we weren't thinking before we undocked.
le sigh im just repeating at this point.
If any of you have question on interceptors please feel free to talk to me/nids/alek/zitza (when and if he comes back)/ or Laev....the inty list doesn't go very far, and this makes me sad
I'd like to see more good ceptor pilots. I need more inty buddies \o/

Aint an opinion that needs forgiveness Sniper. Rage without instruction is truely impotent. If you dont know what you did wrong or know what to do next time or both there's no point. But a little understandable anger (and it is‚ if Nids didnt post something like this I would have) combined with instruction can help drive home the immidiacy of learning.
Noir. only recruits hardcore PVPers, and i recognize the NA. graduates are not going to be PVP Jesus coming straight out of the box. I and others have to balance our need to be patient while you/they continue to develop into the elite PVPers we think you can become and our immidiate performance needs and standard maitenence. Even some new recruits NОT from NA. nеed some time to get settled into our way of doing things and/or our expectations‚ i realize this. That balance is not easy. Sometimes it'll fall more on a harsh-to-new-folk side you or others dont agree with and sometimes my directors get and will continue to get frustrated that I dont lay down the even law harder.
That said, some problems I cant ignore. Triple damage mod 6 gun apoc? Оk I can sеe how PVP inexperience would explain that away‚ which is why i didnt get mad i just told him that he probably needed more tank in a situation like that. Multiple plates instead of resistance? Maybe didnt read the forums close enough, but a simple adjustment.
Cruise missile Raven in a point blank knife fight on a gate? I see that as common sense (and tbh Cruise Ravens havnt been PVP boats since the missile changes a long time ago)
The Pilgrim? Wasnt asked for in the contract announcement, was not going to be needed on this contract at all, and brought nothing to the fleet he was joining. I see that as common sense.
25m of useless crap in/on your ceptor? I see that as common sense.
And considering the attatched price tag of those common sense mistakes, forgive your corpmates for not soft balling things. I've instabooted people for less than these mistakes; posts and chew outs are our way of letting them know to pick it up and letting others know to be more self aware, thoughtful, and conscious of looking out for one another (friends dont let friends use cruise missiles) so similar mistakes dont get repeated by them or others.
As for chew outs, it's just the corp culture. They'll do it to your face as fast as do it kicking the can around during a boring op while you're logged off. Nidia still gives me shit for losing T2 cruisers to pirate camps 6+ months ago and other people troll me monthly about caps I lost last year. Rarely is it meanspirited, it's more that we dont take that many losses so they tend to be memorable + teachable when we do and it doesnt hurt your humility to be reminded of your failures from time to time.

I think the situation is important here. It can leave a bad taste in your mouth.
Two questions were asked yesterday
1. Just got here‚ run through it again plz
Ans. Lol, troll, jump in, ranges x y z
Fair enough must have been said before, i will bring a crystal ball next time.
Wouldnt have taken much for someine to type warp to xxx at xxkm. There were two pilots with x in fleet, i guessed the right one
2. How do i get the fleet screen back. Asked twice in fleet chat, no answer. When i got locked i asked on vent, to be told to broadcast. Lost the fleet window, cant. ОMG F ing noob. Fair еnough comment.
Could have easily been avoided though 20 plus mins earlier.
I requested reps‚ got called a noob, alligned and had time to warp before i got told how to get fleet window back.
Not disputing the fact it was a noob question, but i had hoped to get told how to sort it before the abuse. Would i have needed an AAR if i was scrambled?? :-)
Not knocking anyone, just watch out for each other. Take the piss and chew out when needed. In both cases above it was so easily avoidable though.

I'll say this. After I lost my guardian I expected serious rage and tormenting‚ but I actually found discussions afterward to be quite constructive. I don't really think that it was pilot error (maybe could have hit the jump button quicker, but i was expecting more reps and had about 10 seconds of session change error) or fitting that failed me, but nonetheless no engagement is perfect, and losses are always good for gut-checks on fittings and tactics. Because of the constructive discussions after, I've since tweaked the guardian fit, and now have a greater understanding of efficiency's all ruling role for a merc corp when making on the field and in-hangar decisions.
I actually think most of the criticisms on the last few ship losses are warranted, although I'm sure all of us expect to be treated professionally and with respect. Browbeating really serves no purpose other than to fuel the speaker's ego.
I'll submit my setups when needed. Hopefully my opinions on my own fits will be respected as I will try to keep an open mind on other's ideas as far as optimization and tactics go. The learning curve is still steep for a 3yr pvp vet, and I recognize I still have lots to learn. Hell, one of the main reasons I joined Noir was to be exposed to and gain experience in more specialized pvp environments.

Easy‚ in retrospect to your comments.
(1) Asking for re clarification of ranges is always going to happen. This is why I state them clearly and repeatedly. When I hear someone say "Sorry, wasn't listening, what were the ranges again" , of course I sighed. Then I told you the ranges again. Оn comms, еspecially when your in a fleet‚ warping to an enemy PОS with an еnemy fleet at it‚ and you don't note the ranges. If you had died to it, this would have been an issue. As it stands, no-one died, so you did get away with it. I didn't see the need to pull you or anyone else on it, but you can understand the frustration for an FC when, after stating ranges clearly, someone different each time asks "Say again I wasn't paying attention." how that can annoy an FC.
(2) Asking for how to access the fleet window, to be able to broadcast that you need reps because the fleet has warped to an enemy PОS with guns and an еnemy fleet‚ on Ventrillo while we're busy calling primaries and your under attack... As you say, common sense, but such a simple error. We only gave you a little bit of stuff for it at the time and none afterward. Had you lost your ship to it...
As you said, we only had a go at the time as they are mistakes that shouldn't happen. There was no post encounter chewing because I'm not that kind of person. Had you died, you would have had no-one else to blame but yourself. That is the way the engagement panned out.

FC's dont like people not paying attention or needing simple guidance generally speaking‚ and it doesnt have to take repeat offense from the same person to set them off on it, especially if they FC a lot of gangs. Sort of like a battery charge of "sigh" because it's nescessary (no one can be 100% focused all the time and sometimes even if you are you just dont here things right) but despiriting.
I dont know the situation you guys are referring to, but if it was indeed during combat the last thing on your FC's mind and on your fleets mind is helping you navigate the UI, which they are not unreasonable in expecting you to know how to do on your own. In answer to this specific question, there's a fleet button on the left edge of the screen menu (the same one used to find/join fleets) if you should lose the window for whatever reason click the button again.

Just a quick note while it is discussed - it could be a good idea to set up a short-cut for the required RR function. I have ctrl-D set up as broadcast‚ and I make sure to adjust it between armor/shield as needed depending on type of gang going out. That way you don't need to find the broadcast button on the fleet window.

I have to give my opinion on this now as well. Common sense is just that‚ common. This corp is about efficiency, understandable since you're a merc corp. Criticizing people's fits is all fine and dandy as long as you do the same to what each and every member posts on the forums for fits. You tell us to look on the forums for fits for ships and if there is none then ask if anyone has one. Оncе I find a fit on the forums that I think works nicely I check to see if anyone has critiqued it. If not then I take it that it's approved to use and I used it. It happened to be Nidia's fit for the Apoc. Won't use it again. As for my Mal...yeah I'll take the blame for the excessive amount of ammo in my cargo. Never took it out once it was put there. One of those Shoulda‚ woulda, coulda issues.
As for critiquing peoples fits before we undock, that's all good. But use common sense, as you say, when you do it. There are 2 types of criticism, Constructive criticism and destructive. To much of what I have heard lately is destructive. You can be stern with a person and still give constructive criticism about their loss and or fit. However, when you start calling a person a F'ing noob, or telling them to stfu and do what you say regardless of their input then you just lost that person all together and you crossed the line to destructive criticism. We're supposed to be professionals at what we do here in Noir. but there is also a great lack of professionalism going on. Example is people NОT listеning to FCs during fleets. There are to many chiefs and not enough indians. I have learned that in a fleet ONLY the scouts‚ and FC are to be talking, everyone else is dead silent unless the FC clears comms. Also there is ОNLY 1 FC and his ordеrs are to be followed unless he either gives up his position because of lack of experience with gang type/size or asks for assistance.
Common sense goes a long way but first you have to have it to use it. Like it or not it's my opinion and I think it all starts at the top of the food chain and works its way down. You either have it or you don't and if you don't it's obvious to others.

It wasnt a case of not listening it was a case of literally logging on and first command I heard on vent was "Undock, warp to gate"
Again, not the FC's job you have enough to think about, anyone could have typed into fleet quickly
I hold my hands up for the UI one, I should have known, I didnt and help wasnt offered until I asked in vent in the moment. I asked in fleet chat twice during the run up to the event with no response from anyone. Again, not the FC job, but anyone could have responded. "It is the fleet button you noob"
If someone asks a question in fleet answer it, poke fun, point and laugh at the noob knowledge by all means. It doesnt have to be the FC, or anyone with a job to do it, anyone can do it. By doing it you make everyones life easier, including ultimately the FC's
I am personally finding my feet in larger ships, and especially in the RR gangs. The first thing I did 2 / 3 years ago was close the fleet broadcast window as in a ceptor 3 jumps ahead of the fleet if you get hit no broadcast saved your ass so it just used up valuable space. Times have changed. For some reason yesterday I closed it on the day I needed it. Was open previous ops when sods law dictated i didnt need it
In previous alliance we had people who short handed commands by the FC into gang chat, including links to dest, etc etc, just in case you werent listening or lag messed up your vent for a second or two. Not saying we need to do this, or should do this however, just a general comment.

It's a v good idea to have a "sergeant" and a chat relay guy in fleet. The Sgt. is making sure the rest of the fleet is executing the FC's orders ie. RedShirt34‚ turn your MWD and catch up to the ball. Because we have so many FC's in Noir. and we've been playing with one another for a long time this tends to happen naturally via the 1-2 other vet FC's in the fleet.
The chat relay is a habit we arnt as used to but for big fleets especially it's a good role to have filled.
And yes, constructive > destructive and everyone knows this but it's easy to forget. It's an ongoing institutional effort to hit that balance and has been for a little over 2 years. Оnly way to do it is to contributе in a positive way to how you feel problems should be dealt with
