Eyeshadow(MC) on FCing
Eyeshadow on Fleet Command
As promised, a little write up on my experience while FCing
Its actually pretty easy to command MC ops. Just about all the people in the Mc know what they are doing anyway, you just have to co-ordinate it.
Be assertive. If you seem unsure, people wont like it. Even if you make a bad call, do it like you mean it. Analyse things after the combat, not during it. If you screw up, dont say anything until after it. The last thing people want to hear is an FC falling to pieces in the middle of a fight
Never be afraid to ask for opinions. If you are unsure what to do or would like some reassurance, ask the gang. Get a few opinions from everyone else. Everyone here is very experienced, so use that to your advantage
Be clear with instructions. Call your scout by his name before you ask for something. Call your covert op by his name when asking for intel. Ensure everyone else knows to stfu on TS while an op is in progress. Theres a time and place for fucking about and its not on a build up to a fight. If you want something doing, always give a clear instruction direct to the person/people you want to do it.
While in a fight, call your targets repeatedly. This can take some practice cos your busy doing other stuff, like shooting/locking etc. If your an EW boat, dont FC. Ive tried it once and its impossible. I like to call 3 targets, and as i call them, i lock them. When the primary is nearly dead, call ya secondary as primary, tertiary as secondary, lock a new target and call it tertiary. This way everyone has good warning of the target progression. Call the targets continuosly during the engagement.
Make sure you have a secondary + tertiary target caller. Make it clear they are just to call targets, not actually FC, as this will make people more willing. If you dont allocate new target callers before a fight, you could end up with silence on TS. Not a good thing
Before you even start moving your fleet, make sure you know its composition, and put everyone in their place (see my fleety stuff guide in the tactics forum). Make sure they know theyre support/ew/tacklers etc (most will know this anyway, but do it for clarification). You need an accurate number on your fleet compostition so you can guage what size fleet you can happily/unhappily engage. This will give you confidence in your fleet.
As for general tactics, its pretty hard to give anything specific as each fight is different and has to be played by ear. This is where your skill as FC will come in. Be inventive, be a little daring, have a bit of imagination. Dual covert ops is an awesome trick to play. Warping between covert ops will confuse the enemy FC and put doubts in his mind.
When i FC i think of it as a battle of wits between me and the enemy FC. If you can get one over on him, then you are in the driving seat. If you can do something to take him by surprise, he will doubt himself and give you the upper hand. If you spot the slightest mistake by him (mis-movement or fleet split up or something) pounce on it as quickly as possible. Its not always just about how many BS you kill to how many you lose. If you can screw the enemy FC over, he will lose confidence and so will his pilots. It will make them make even more mistakes, which is good for you.
Lastly, i find the best FCs are those that can take control. Dont be afraid to shout. Anyone that knows me knows i shout at people. They wont take it personally, unless your being a twat, and it will put you in a position of authority, which is important if your gonna FC. Some will disagree with me about shouting on TS, but i find it necessary sometimes, and im never personal about it, i just want to get the job done as well as i possibly can.
I cant really think of anything else. If theres something i havent touched on, please post in here and ill do my best to answer any questions.
Comms *must* be KISS (keep it simple, stupid).
Оnе way to keep coms to a minimum is to NEVER ask a question that requires people to reply. Ie: "Is everyone ready?"
A question like that will make half of the fleet to say "Yes" and it will leave eventual "no" to risk getting lost in the white noise of all other peoples voices.
Instead‚ invert the same question. Ie: "Is there anyone who isn't ready?"
Now you will only get responses if something is wrong.
Also, gang members must learn to give only important intel. In Swedish military we have an expression, "7S", that covers what is needed everytime anyone gives any kind of intel, what so ever.
Roughly translated to EVE and after removing only RL factors we are left with:
When? (how old is the intel?)
Where? (System name)
Оccupation? (Whеre in the system where they‚ what were they doing?)
How many? (Numberѕ)
What kind of ships? (BS + support)
Tag? (If not obvious)
Who rеported it? (Name of the podeneer that piloted the ship that saw them (for eventual warp to's etc))
Not all of these are applicable at all times‚ but at leaѕt try to gеt where they are‚ what ѕhips thеy are in‚ at what celeѕtial objеct and who spotted
