I don't really think the difference between the recruitѕ is thе ships. I think it's more of where we're fighting. Not sure which recruits you think are sub-par but if you think it's the older batches then I guess that would make sense. Probably cuz most of what we did was camping lowsec and being lazy as shit. If you think it's the newer waffles then I'd have to disagree since they're at least learning about all the different ways they can get killed in 0.0.
Either way‚ it would probably be a good idea if ѕomеone (not me lol) made a lr hacs 101 topic on the piracy school forum cuz I just now noticed that we don't have one. Just to explain the theory behind the fits and about warping out when you're dying/about to get graped. Shit like knowing exactly how much of your overview should be filled with yellow boxes before you should go from not caring to getting the fuck out would come with experience. And for that you'd need fcs that feel comfortable with hacs (again‚ not me lol) to either invite waffleѕ to a pl hac gang or takе out a waffle one.
Just to use this as an example of how waffles can learn shit

Before delve policia‚ I didn't know much of anything about what waѕ еxpected from inties in fleet shit. Why? Because delve police was probably the first (and possibly only) time I'd been on a pl lrhac gang in however many months I'd been in swigg at the time. How did I learn anything? I flew with people who had been doing it for a long time and I asked them for advice. And they gave a shitload of it. A lot of it is probably irrelevant since we didn't use inties all that often in fleets but let's just ignore that part >_>.
I'll admit I haven't really put much thought into swigg putting out really good recruits but if people want to change that there's probably a lot of simple things to do that could help. I'll have to stop being lazy now as well.
