Lag happens in big fights for a number of reasons, but there are some tips and tricks you can use to reduce the impact on your ability to fight.
Graphics options.
Needless to say, turn these fuckers all the way down, use the most basic settings detail, shading and make sure all guns/missile/effects are turned off. This will help your own machine cope with the high number of thingies it needs to make pictures of. Pretty sure eveyone knows where these options are... ESC menu, graphics options. If your machine is still struggling then zoom out a bit too or fight in the map screen.
Brackets.
Make sure you have an overview setting that removes all brackets from objects in space. Again, your PC has less thingies to draw and will be a bit quicker. If you already know how to set up your overviews and have options you like then np... do it. If not you can use this overview import...

Guns
Now here is a less commonly known one. When you fight in lag you may have noticed that guns keep cycling but not shooting, indeed other modules do this too. This reduces the overall damage output of the fleet by a massive amount and thankfully there is a way to deal with it.
Before a fight where you know you face lag, follow these steps.
1. Ungroup all your guns/launchers.
2. Set autorepeat off for each (right click menu on each gun).
3. Fire your guns at something, you will notice a little gun icon next to the selected target box for each gun.
4. Soon as your guns have fired, click the little icons to stop them cycling.
5. Rinse and repeat 3 and 4.
You will not get as good dps as usual, but more than if you leave them to autocycle uselessly. It does take some practice to do it quickly as well as follow primaries and stuff but worth doing.
DО NOT DO THIS WITH OTHER MODULES LIKE POINTS/ARMOR HARDENERS/MWD.
Hopе that helps. If anyone has stuff to add I can edit it in.
