Heya all;
Have a few questions... since being gone and coming back due to work and the unexpected cancellation of my account (and subsequent difficulty getting it reactivated -.-) the one thing that still plagues me is my low kill count... I come on all the ops I feel I can, however it still seems like there's a ton of time I'm just sitting around doing nothing... so I go out to do some 'solo piracy', or as I call them, 'futile attempts at scaring large dogs'. I've read the guides, I've read recommendations, I feel I am a pretty decent pilot. I've got scanning skills, I can find someone in a very brief amount of time, I watch local, I keep up transversal. I keep a MWD on, I don't jump into gatecamps, I scan gates when hostiles in system. I pick my fights, I don't fly what I can't afford to lose... yet, I still hit a wall
Recently I've lost a slew of ships trying to get some solo kills, and when its not losing a ship, its losing a day. I'll go out to a few systems that look good (generally back up towards empire) go a few more, go here, one more system that way, and find I'm 30 jumps from home... I make the return trip, and all I ever find are a plethora of ships at a PОS, a safе-spotted Raven‚ a Rifter who warps and jumps just slightly quicker than myself... and when I DО finally find a targеt out ratting at a belt‚ its an Armageddon or something I simply can not take in my Harpy/Hawk/Crow/whatever else I happen to be in.
If you have some time to spare and would like to help out, please read on and contribute what you can; if not, don't worry, I'll catch on eventually

Basically, I'm just wanting some tips from the bigger dogs in the alliance. Shamis, I constantly see you out there on your own just demolishing people, you find targets, you slay them, and you get home, safe. I can of course admit that you obviously have a ton more cash than me; I would probably get more kills if I flew a t2 Cruiser / Raven/Rokh, or similar ship, but at the moment I can either not fly them or not afford to... regardless, I know your strength isn't in your ship solely, its in your skill and your knowledge (This applies to more than just shamis, some of you guys are just insane solo-pilots).
Any tips you guys have? General hunting areas, things to try, things to do, ways to avoid getting jacked (I like to gate camp, but I'm always worried one ship will jump through, I will engage, and then 30 ships will jump on top of me, drop a bubble, and my initial target will get away... a wasted ship, wasted kill, and wasted time, with no gain

I try to find solo ratters (or small groups) but never seem to be able to, perhaps I just don't know the right areas? Particular ships you would use? I try a few different things; a gun Harpy, a missile Hawk (it seems buff PVE but the only way to fit it nicely is to put a ABII on it instead of MWD, which, for PVP, isn't 'nice' at all...), a Crow, Drakes, Feroxes, Caracals, Moas, Cormorants... and I really can't find my niche just yet. I'm loving the Crow as a ship in gangs and i feel it has solo potential but its hard to find a supply of them, and losing one normally means I'm out of commision for a decent amount of time.
I know this seems like a 'i r teh nubz' post, but really I just want to make myself a better pilot, get some more kills, be more active, and be more helpful to the alliance. Very few of my kills are kills where I feel that, had I not been there, wouldn't have died anyway... exception would be like last night when narcis and I chased a few stragglers in our Crows, got a pair stuck on a gate, and others came in to kill- I felt accomplished then. Help me feel more accomplished! I would really like to get at least SОME solo kills in my rеpertoire

Any help is glady appreciated‚ you guyѕ rock, and you bafflе me with your piloting / piracy skills... and I am much humbled.
