we really should add some features to attract players from others forums‚ because even with authentication its just another faggoty eve forum, and theres tons of them out there already.
some things i can think of are optional skill reminders integrated into the forum... like people supply their lowsec api key and a popup appears when their skills run out of time
lets copy our op timer over too, so community events can be posted. maybe even personal events, but that will require some recoding.
ability to add alliances to one's block list !
ill think of others as time goes on, but to get any meaningful amount of membership so that it becomes self sustaining like scrapheap is we will need to top them... or else we will end up with a relatively unpopular forum.
what forum package are you going to use? personally, i suggest vbullettin, even though it costs $. phpbb3 does not offer as much customization(no custom BB code, no custom templates you just have to hack the source php files). i dont know a whole lot about IP boards but the interface looks shitty. and SMF and phpnuke and everything else arent even worth mentioning, except honorable mention for worst security in a forums package.

i am open to pretty much anything from our internal pl group of forum knowledgeable people and pl script monkeys. I wouldn't want outsiders i dont trust doing some shitty stuff. If someone can be vouched for and wants to do something then let them have at it.
VB is the most start off secure and its as far as i can remember very customizable with scripts and stuff. So i will find a way to get a VB license. Will be a couple weeks before it gets going because of license cost. I am just starting a new job and need to make sure i am good before buying a $180 USD software license.
As far as other things added in, i would like to see if we can either one setup our own skill reminders and such automated tasks from api's or two talk with sites that already make that software and see if they want to integrate into a forum environment. Maybe offer them some advertising in exchange. Automated posting of sov and faction changes would be really interesting as well. I am somewhat biased here but an iphone app for headlines would be the SHIZZENET. That alone might be a way into the skill training and api system that the some eve iphone app developers have setup.
Any ideas that can be implemented will be set to go just as long as there is a programmer that is willing to do it. I personally would love to see a whole crazy secure page for skill training and skill path/training. community event timers would kick ass as well.
Unfortunate thing about custom code is i suck at it and most of our guys are pretty tied up with real life or burnt out on eve, ie; lux for example. But i think as this takes shape some people will step up and do some cool stuff.
Not to ramble as i have had a few beers. but i have been messing around with an audio recording system that would allow people to post audio battle reports as well. This could be a huge draw as people may (hopefully not us) give battle reports as it is going on. all they would need is a mic and it leaves a link to a title of the audio file that can be played back like a phone answering machine.
IF this can be broken up inside the battle report threads it would drive a massive amount of traffic. Bonus being its all run offsite through a free system. So no bandwidth draw on us as long as we can figure out how to automate it. Then feed it into a shoutcast system all in order of message left. Broadcasting on battledb radio with music and ads running in between but cut into when a message comes in. I may also be able to find a sponsor to pay for that bandwidth and coding as well. Оf coursе it would also have to be open for only posters that will not just yell obscenities. But rage messages from drunck FC's would be funny as hell.
