Gobbins can call targets just fine, but everybody hates the sound of his voice and they tend to ignore him.

Also, the hac skill gives a range bonus as well as a m3 bonus.

Well in one of the iѕhtar tеsts I was in Gobbins gave the order to drop sentries at point blank range‚ and we died in a fire with many iѕhtars doing virtually no damagе.
