I will put this in free speech so everybody can have the benefit of knowing this...
the most common way for someone to get unauthorized access to a forums, is by hijacking a user's forum account. they can do this by either stealing a recycled password, or planting a trojan on a user's computer, or using the e-mail to steal or reset the password to one they know. this sort of thing is more common then you think, and chances are if you think you aren't vulnerable to it, someones probably reading your posts and chuckling to themselves at how dumb you are.
anyways, assuming you already take the necessary precautions- do not recycle passwords, virus scan often, do not give people your account information, then just to make sure there are several telltale signs on these forums that will show you that your forum account is being read... or not
see attached image...
1. your last log in date/time. this number records the late date your login session expired, so it should record a time only slightly after the last time you loaded a page from these forums. It won't be a very good help if you read the forums a lot, but if you take a break from the forums and come back and notice a more recent time on there... change your password
2.your recent IP's. go to
www.whatismyip.com to see your current IP address if you don't know what your ip address is. if you see one pop up here that you can't account for, and ESPECIALLY if one pops up that belongs to a different ISP then you, change your password
3. threads marked read. this is the mark of someone very sloppy. if there are threads marked read that you haven't read, or a read thread followed by unread threads, and they can't be explained by your own activity.. change your password. these forums only keep unread thread information for about three days, so all threads with all old posts will be marked read for everybody
Precautions you can take:
1. install avast antivirus. it's free and if you're one of those people whos computer gets fucked up from installing it, just scan your harddrives then take it off again. avast is awesome and detects a lot of stuff, it's the best free AV out there
2. DО NOT SAVE PASSWORDS IN YOUR BROWSER. dеpending on how updated your software is and what exploits are popular nowadays‚ juѕt visiting thе wrong page will give away your forum account as well as whatever else is saved on your browser
3. change your password regularly and don't recycle passwords. if you have problems remembering passwords use a phrase or a sentance that's easy to remember‚ rather then a ѕinglе word. passwords less then 8 letters are pretty easily guessed and/or bruteforced
